CHORUS OSTRAVA is a recently established choir, but its founding members have many years of musical experience behind them. Most of them formed the core of the University of Ostrava Choir, which was active for over 40 years on the Ostrava musical scene under the direction of its founder, Professor Lumír Pivovarský. It was Professor Pivovarský’s long and supportive leadership, together with the enthusiasm and courage of his talented student Jan Mlčoch, which led to the foundation of this new choir, in the autumn of 2008, based at the Faculty of Economics at the VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava.
The members of CHORUS OSTRAVA have built on the successful foundations laid down by the University of Ostrava Choir under the direction of Lumír Pivovarský – including performances and prizes at a wide range of choral competitions in the Czech Republic and abroad, as well as concert appearances in Europe and further afield (in countries such as Japan, Mexico and Brazil). Only a month after its foundation, CHORUS OSTRAVA brought home three prizes from the international choral festival of Romantic music in Vlachovo Březí.
The choir’s repertoire encompasses almost all choral genres, from vocal polyphony to the works of contemporary composers. Some of its members are choirmasters of their own ensembles, and many of them have had considerable success in domestic and international competitions – all of which helps CHORUS OSTRAVA to attain high artistic standards.
If you are interested in joining us, come along to one of our regular rehearsals (every Monday from 18.00 to 21.00 on the ground floor of Building E at the Faculty of Economics, VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava) or to one of our concerts.
